Baby Gifts

Once upon a time, a baby shower used to be an intimate event where close friends and family would gather together to eat cake and homemade nibbles, play a few games and give the mummy-to-be some thoughtfully handpicked gifts. Now, it seems to have evolved into an elaborate stately affair, a month prior to which, mumzilla herself sends you an online gift registry that totals up to the amount of a small house deposit. It may have started off as an American tradition, but it has become as much of a custom here in the UK as anywhere else.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved my baby shower. My sisters organised a beautiful afternoon tea with an Indian twist – chai tea and samosas (yum!) served as well as traditional English scones, sandwiches, cakes, and a catalogue of exotic teas. I was made to feel very special and everyone I loved and cared about was there to celebrate me and my bump. The presents were also lovely and gratefully received, but I’m actually here to draw your attention to a hidden little treasure I discovered quite recently.

When I was looking to buy a gift for a friend who’d just recently had a baby, I came across the website From Babies with Love. As I’ve mentioned before, I can’t get enough of organic baby clothes and this company sells some delightful gift sets, including baby clothes, hats, bibs and muslin swaddles. They also sell some beautiful handcrafted wooden toys made from sustainable sources, like these nautical themed nesting cubes.

As I was browsing through some of their gorgeous collections, a bar at the top of the website caught my eye. It said the following:

“All profits go around the world to help abandoned children.”

From Babies with Love

So I did some further reading and it turns out that From Babies with Love is an award winning social enterprise that sells beautiful, ethically sourced baby products and donates one hundred per cent of the profits to orphaned and abandoned children around the world. They partner with other charities to provide family homes, education and healthcare to children who have lost their parents through war, famine, disease or poverty.

The gifts they sell also come beautifully presented in a quaint little drawstring gift bag and recycled/recyclable packaging, along with a lovely greeting card – it’s obvious that every last detail has been carefully and thoughtfully considered, in order to create the perfect baby gift.

I adore their products so much that I couldn’t help myself and even went ahead and bought some things for my little one (ignoring the fact they’re actually supposed to be gifts). So if you’re stuck for gift ideas, perhaps have a look at their website. I honestly cannot think of a more precious and thoughtful gift to give to a new or expecting parent, whilst also supporting a very worthy cause.
